The 20's:

The 30's:
As the years rolled by, so did the design of swimwear. Bikinis, the first two-piece swimsuits, appeared on the scene in the 1930s. These matching top and bottom sets were constructed from a jersey fabric.
The 50's and 60's:
High-waisted bottoms and halter tops became popular in swimwear during the 1950s, when the "pin-up" style became popular. During the '60s, a new, even smaller style of bikini emerged called the "microkini."
The 70's and 80's:
The 1970s saw a proliferation of bright colours and a wide variety of swimwear, from lacy, feminine suits to more functional, athletic cuts. In the 1980s, the "monokini," a one-piece suit featuring a cut-out in the middle, became a design staple.
Although one-piece swimsuits have been around for quite some time, they have recently experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to the growing body-positive movement and the resulting demand for more modest bathing attire.
